East Petersburg , PA. As Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dover ( Arkansas ), Dr. Jeff Paxton knows the importance of once-in-a-lifetime events in member’s lives. He wel com es newborns, officiates at baptisms, presents first com munion, blesses marriage and offers com fort in loss. Jeff Paxton is also familiar with the less important life events, but exceedingly exciting ones that are few and far between for most of us– like shooting a hole-in-one on a golf course. He owns this achievement, and so does his son Austin, a member of the Dover Golf Team who shot a Hole-in-One on #8 at the Bay Ridge Golf Course on September 22, 2004.
To commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime event, Dr. Paxton, author of Words in Faith in Wood, 53 Artistic Patterns for the Scroll Saw, created a clever wooden trophy designed to hold that special hole-in-one ball. The trophy is developed in crossword puzzle style with interlocking letters that spell “Hole in One”. The lucky ball sits atop a “tee” inside the letter “O”.
Jeff Paxton’s Hole-in-One pattern, and a photo of Jeff with Austin and his trophy, is featured in Scroll Saw Workshop, Spring 2006 issue, currently available on newsstands or from www.scrollsawer.com or by phone 1-800-457-9112. Readers of Scroll Saw Workshop receive quality scroll saw woodworking patterns and new projects in each issue. After the Hole-in-One trophy is completed, another 16 projects – for all skill levels – can be enjoyed.
Jeff also operates Paxton’s Portraits and Projects, offering scrollwork from Christian scripture and personal portraits cut in wood, also available from the Collector’s Gallery Craft Mall, Russellville, Arkansas. Words in Faith in Wood, a pattern book for the scroll saw, is available from Fox Chapel Publishing, www.foxchapelpublishing, for $14.95 plus shipping.
