Traditional Chinese Dragon and Pheonix cut from a Jhansi paper cutting design. This is not the heavily westernized asian patterns you find everywhere. This pattern also represents male-female and the ying-yang. Many chinese couples hang this pattern with the double happiness symbol over their marital beds for a long and happy marriage.

I think that this is absolutely one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen! I would love to try this one myself, where did you get the pattern?

Search for chinese paper cutting patterns. I don't have the original pattern but there are many like it. Also, the critique I received from chinese people was that although they could never tell a non-asian made the dragon and pheonix, the frame around it is entirely out of place.
