These beloved breeds, Australian Shepherd, Collie and Springer Spaniel were cut and carved using patterns drawn by Don R that I modified for my project. The coloration was completed using dry brush artist oil stains. The finished piece is 26" x 9 1/2" x 1 1/4" thick.
The wood is a new one for me called Red Grandis, plantation grow in Uruguay. It is a high grade hardwood prized for its consistent color, workability, and ease of finishing. The color ranges from pink to pink/tan. Red grandis makes a lower cost substitute for cherry, mahogany and sapele, and is a sustainable resource. It was easy to work with.

Nice looking project, Dick! And thanks for the info on Red Grandis wood. I'll have to try that. It looks sharp.
