Default Butterfly box

I'm making the box that is on the front of the SSW&C mag the issue we just received. I'm having fun with it. First I was going to paint the wings but decided to leave it alone. This is made all from scrap wood but the bottom was cut from 1/4" poplar and the rest is wood I found at the Goodwill. The wood was those ready to finish plaques and there were 3 but one has a picture hanger on it so I'll do some pyrography on that one and the other two were perfect size for the wings. It almost looks like several different woods in the wings. It has 4 compartments and it is not glued yet bit the lid liners are glued in. I just glued up the bottom and it has 4 big clamps and it is also in the bench vise so that vise sure does come in handy when you need an extra hand. Enjoy, Because the wood grain is going in a funny way, I will call this one my albino butterfly, but it is interesting. Will post it gain when it is all finished. Have a great day Fay

Thanks,, I've got more sanding to do on it and possibly more shaping. The lids were a little hard to fit in after gluing the lid liners in place. I think one may have shifted a little bit so I sanded a little bit off the liner and it is looking better. I'm surprised it is turning out better than I thought it was going to. Have a great day Fay

You have done a very nice job with this project. You have come a long way since you started.

Thanks every one for all the kind words. I'm working on the lining now and it is finished except for a little more polishing. Will post later a picture of the finish product. Have a great day Fay

Awwww. shuckins.. I don't think my level is all that great as I have a lot of learning yet to do. I'm working on getting the sanding better and I think I have, but have more work to do in that. I want to try inlay and other things like that. I found a pattern for a frog box that is in one of the SSWC issues and will try that box if I have the wood to do it with. Will look around tomorrow in my woods to see what I have and how much wood it will take. Have a great day and have a look at the completed box in the boxes and bowls and 3D compound cutting forum. Have a great day Fay
