He didn't turn out as well as I hoped but it will do. It's cut from a single piece of pine slab wood from a friends fire wood pile. In fact it's the cut out from the Elmore fridge magnet display. The other piece I used the blue stain almost disappeared when the shellac hit it and in this one it jumped. The frame is stained zar mocha and raised about 3/8" The backer black and hair is ebony stain. I added 1/8" spacers and reinstalled the hair then blended everything with a dremel drum sander. It's pretty close to being carved like a coin relief. I still need a lot of practice but I'm gettin' there. It wasn't really the right pattern. I'm not very good at converting fret patterns to intarsia yet. Everything has two coats af shellac and three of clear acrylic. sanded to 400 between coats. "Thank you very much"

The more I look at the first one the closer it gets to the wood box. This is the replacement. Made this one today from a piece of cherry. It's backed with 1/4" luan. The dark stain is mocha and the center is stained cherry to soften the contrast. The hanger is zebra wood. Two coats of shellac and three clear acrylic on the front and one of each on the back. Got it done just under the wire for the retirement party. I had a doctor appointment and finished it when I got home. BTW I get my new hip on July 23rd. Can't wait.
