Default More progress on Jaydon's stern wheeler

Got some more done on Jay's boat. I built it intending to paint it but it's not looking too bad as wood. I had to re-think and build the paddle wheel and drive assembly.
I borrowed the rubber band drive from Steve Good's rubber powered car.
More details and fittings to do. Should I paint the hull.?

is this to be used in the bath tub?
it could use some more sanding if your going to clear coat it...

I vote for painting the hull. I am thinking that if you dropped a layer of fiberglass on the hull it would make finishing that thing where it could take the paint a whole lot nicer. I'm not telling you I'm just saying. . . . .

But DO NOT paint the Wheelhouse.

Paint the hull but not the wheelhouse...Nicely done so far.

Knowing Jay it's going to see duty on sand, sidewalks, mud puddles, bath tub, pool and the Sacramento River. LOL

OK Hull Painted. Green, Blue, Yellow or black. I thought about fiberglass, probably on the next one.
When you say the wheelhouse are you referring to the cabin too or just the wheelhouse? The decking I'm going to leave as is I liked the way it's going to look. The main deck is butternut and the bow deck and cabin overhead is luan, trimmings from backers painted black and I liked the way sanding aged them.
The cabin is a cut down butternut box that never got finished.
The pilot house is the same pine as the hull with a bn roof.
Jay's name is cut from cherry using Steve's key chain program on the smallest setting, then I sliced it about 1/16" to match the curve on the front of the cabin.
This one was the prototype so the next one won't be quite so rustic. It's also going to be a side wheeler with power.
There will also be a cradle for it to sit on.
Thanks for the input. Going to put splash guards over the paddles today.
