Default Staining Little areas

This is a cross I made out of plywood and I was working on staining it and there has to be an easy way of getting stain in the little areas. I was using a toothpick, but that was getting a little hard. Just wanted your guys' thoughts on how to get the little areas (especially on the leaves). One is taken with the flash on and the other with it off.

Are you staining the entire piece a natural finish?

If so dip it. Then let it sit for a few minutes use a lint free rag (old t-shirts) and wipe off excess, then wearing safety glasses an being careful use your compressor to blow off the excess out of the recesses where the rag won't reach. Works for me.

Just regular wood stain (the big one is "special walnut" and the little one is "golden pecan"). I wish I knew of some place that sells hardwood for this.

Might have been easier to stain each piece before putting them together.

They're separate in the picture. I just laid it on top to get an idea if it looked good.

Now see you didn't say that....LOL You need to give us all the information up front..<smile>

I'd definitely dip the lower piece. The upper piece you can just use a wipe on stain.

I use a camel hair brush, it has very soft bristles, and can get in there pretty good. also, I drown my pieces, over paper. or plastic, then I blow the frets out before I hang my piece. also wipe it off, dipping is a very fast way. but I never have a pan big enough. that is how I do it. your friend Evie
Ps. the cross is just beautiful. love that pattern.
