Default Fretwork box from Fall issue

This was my attempt at one of the box's in our latest issue.Did it come out perfect? Not even close. But I did learn (I hope) from the mistakes I made.It is all red oak and red ply except for the 1/8" birch backer board.

On a side note to John B--- you hooked me on the metric system mate.I found it easier to do the measurements in mm.I NEVER thought in school that I would use them, and just HATED buying metric tools when the car companies started using them here in the U.S.A. I grumbled about your tissue box being mm measurements, had to go buy a couple rulers to make it, and glad I had them for this box. Thanks They came in handy.

Nice work! I think you did a great job on those boxes.

I resisted the metric system as well, but...I gotta say that it makes math much easier, and it's a lot easier on the publishing end as well. We have to go through and manually "stack" each and every fraction published in the magazine. For the metric, I type it and it's done...

They look great! I really like the red oak for the box. Thanks for showing the pics.

Thanks Bob and Kevin.Thank goodness for low quality pictures . None of my corners came out "even" at the edges and the fretwork was glued in upside down-- I was making the flat top and for some reason glued it with the pic facing down instead of up Still, it was fun to do, and for my second box it could have gone much worse.

Great job, Jerry! I agree with Kevin about the Red Oak. It looks great for that project.

Love it!

By the way, did you get to use the router in the kitchen again?

Well you certainly did Kevin's (Jediscroller) box justice. Looks good even with your upside down pic. Done many boo boo's myself, but boxes sure are fun to do.

Okay, I love the subject of the box and the red oak sets it off very nicely with the finish you used. Not sure about these boo boos you said you made, but looks great for your second box!
