Lookin' good there Tom! I'm of no help with suggestions for the mountains and the horizontal stab. What you've done is looking great but where to proceed from here? Not a clue. I'm lovin' it though. Thanks for the progress pics.

Andy

Well it has been a tough week around here, that's for sure. I squeezed out some time in the shop last night and concentrated on working this.

The shaping is really coming along now. You can clearly see how the wings stand out, I removed a bunch more like Dick suggested. I also started sanding and trying to smooth it out a bit. I haven't yet touched the mountains, but I will.

I'd say there is still a significant amount of time to be invested in getthing this done, lots and lots of difficult hand sanding to do for sure.

Another update, I got some time on it last night. I am working mostly on smoothing now. I still haven't touched the mountains. I like Dick's suggestion, but I'm a bit freaked about making the rough mountain texture.

oh I don't know yet what to do.

Well I am not at home, I'm at the in-laws. I've had to bring some supplies with me and buy a table to work on and now I have a sort of make shift shop. It is SO hot here, south and east of Tucson Az.

Anyways, here is my progress. I'm not sure that I will shape it any more. I think cutting of the edge with the scroll saw will be the end of cutting. That of course will leave more sanding, but once my fingers heal some that shouldn't be a problem

Let me know what you all think so far...

G'day Tom,
I haven't commented on this thread before, mainly because I never new where you where going with it.
Now I can say............ That is one serious project.
It definitely is one of a kind, and something you can be bloody proud of.

Looking GOOOOOOOOOD!! You're getting a LOT more depth and detail out of the carving than I ever expected. I'm lovin' every minute of this project Tom ... but you already knew that.
