I've been working on this for longer than I care to admit. LOL. When I first seen Bruce Worthington's birdfeeder (intarsia) in a previous issue of SSWC, I loved it. (I love how Bruce creates his bird patterns) I wanted to do a fretwork interpretation of it and found his intarsia worked out wonderfully for a tutorial on translating intarsia/segmentation to fretwork. Here's a work in progress photo of "Visitors". This panel will eventually be placed into a garden gate. Take care Toni

Thanks Janette. I'm pleased with the actual fretwork pattern that is shown here, but I haven't cut baltic birch ply for awhile and it's making this a slow project for me. Take care Toni

If anybody can you can Toni!! Lookin' GREAT!!!!! Can't wait to see the wood showing through. Bruce is as awesome a person as he is a designer and I'm sure he'll be really proud seeing your interpretation of his work. Good stuff! Andy

Looking good so far Toni. I really liked it when I saw it in the magazine but never thought of turning it into a fret pattern. I am afraid to try intarsia because I tend to not finish things off, but a fret version of the pattern is something I would find myself finishing.

Thanks guys! Bruce gave me a wonderful project to work from - which makes all the difference. Forester... the tutorial needs a little more work but it is based on converting intarsia/segmentation patterns into fretwork WITHOUT the use of computers, so anyone can try without having to invest or learn software. I need to go back and tweak some of the instruction to photograph details when I finally get this cut. Take care Toni
