LOL It's a fine line where you've done enough/too much. I set my item aside and walk away. Then come back and view it as a whole. That, or ask my daughter - she gives pretty good advise most the time.
You'll have to post another picture now you know....

Trout
That looks very good to me, but you are the one making
it and I'm sure what ever you do it will be awesome when
you are happy with it. More pics, more pics!!!

Missed the beginning of this one. Looks like you will end up with a fine box when you are finished.

yep, that's a big improvement indeed. If it's not too late, you should re-cut one of the petals. I'm just not sure how to describe which one. It's the largest one in the middle. from the bottom it's third one up in the center. It is shaped opposite of what it should be. You have it tapering down towards the outside, but should be thickest at the outside. Have to try and imagine looking into a rose, all the pedals are thickest at the outside edges. The original example is thickest/highest at the outside as well.

Of course it's your flower and if you don't want to put in that extra effort, that's fine by me. Pretty neat looking project regardless, so I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.
