ok so no problem with the back on, it does make things look dark tho...

with the back off, it seems to take something away from your fine scroll work and be a bit distracting.

maybe the solution to all of that is backs on and put some lighting inside...

The clock is looking real good Ralph .
Personally I prefer it with the back on rather than left open . Perhaps that is because I put a back on mine. Here are some pictures of the construction stages of mine.

I put a light kit of tiny lights inside with a switch to turn them on or off.

Thanks again folks for the kind words. I too think the backs darken the interior and "hide" the fretwork so I'll probably do like William and use some small lights inside. The backs give the whole thing a much more finished look or I'd leave them off.
I've been busy with springtime household chores these past couple of weeks so I haven't gotten as much done as I'd like. I have mostly finished cutting and assembling the 4th level and a few pieces cut for the next level. I'll try and post some pics in a day or so.
As always, thanks for looking and suggestions/ comments pro or con are appreciated!

Well I haven't been able to spend as much time on the clock as I would have liked these past couple of weeks. But then, isn't that the way it always is with something you enjoy doing.
I havemanaged to pretty much finish the 4th and 5th levels except for some small trim pieces. The base and first few floors have been treated with Watco Danish oil and the bottom has had the final finish of several coats of satin lacquer applied.
I haven't attached the floors permanently together yet so that I can finish one level at a time. This way I can do a better job of getting in and around with the spray finish. The 4th and 5th level are still raw.
I've got a question for anyone who has an earlier version of these plans. On my plans pg.6, part #68 is a small decorative trim brace type piece. My plans show "make 34" and "see clock drawing on pg.1 for placement". Problem is, my plans have no drawing on page 1. There is no drawing of the complete clock anywhere in this set of plans! There is only a partial side view of the top levels on pg.6 that hints at placement for perhaps 10 of these things. If anyone here has details on there proper placement, I would appreciate the info.
Thanks for looking!
Ralph

Absolutly stunning! Your powers of concentration are super. I do not have the patience for that much work. If I can't get it done within a month or so, it ain't getting done.

You are cutting the straight parts on your table saw, correct? Great work!
