Default More Chesspieces and A Business Card Holder

Here are the latest. I worked on finishing and got three more pieces cut over the weekend. Between errands and the saw breaking down, it's going to take me a year to cut all the pieces. I put a new Delta QuickClamp-II on my saw and it lasted all of 10 minutes before it broke and sent pieces all over the garage!!!

Anyway, here are my kings, knights, and a business card holder made out of spalted maple. The Rook is designed after the Canterbury castle ruin in england and is made from canarywood.

Good stuff! I love the choice of wood you've selected for the chess pieces ... the card holder is awesome too.

Very nice work, all of it. Nice wood choices as well.

Sweet, that is going to be one fine piece when you get it finished. I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of the finished product.

Really nice. The spalted maple clock business holder is beautiful. Question. Is that dust on the chess pieces or what?

Yes that is dust. That was my first experiment with Danish oil and I soaked them each for about 30 min. This is a day after so there is some drying that has taken place. Since that time I've dunked them again and they also have gotten two coats of Polyurethane.

Nice cutting Jim! I have finished the mahogany set of your Notre Dame pattern and am really liking the way they are coming out. I have to mill the walnut for the other set, maybe tomorrow if I can get some time between meetings. Obviously I have not done any finish work on them yet, I will do both at the same time. And no, I know nothing about chess and I know they are not in the right order, they are just sitting around waiting on being finished!!

Those look fantastic. The rook and the pawn I had not even cut yet. The Rook looks even better than I thought it would. You have done a masterful job cutting them and I look forward to the finish.

Way to go!!!
