Hello Everyone
Our grandkids ask if they could make paddle boats they could us at the beach in the summer. Does anyone know of plans for a rubber band powered paddle boat?

Thanks Arthur and Mike for the links. I like the Toy paddle boat that both of you had. It looks like some thing the grandkids could do. I wondering if you could make the rudder movable by drilling holes in an arc, use the front hold as a pivot point and the back to lock it in place. I think I some 3/4 pine for the hull and pilot house and some 1/8" BB plywood for the paddle I'll not sure what to use for the rudder yet. I may have to make a prototype so see how it will all fix together and then come months of testing, after all why should the kids have all the fun.

Heres one I made that started out rubber band powered but ended up with an electric motor and belt driven paddle.
the paddle is one piece cut from a 2x4

That a nice looking boat. I've been playing around with the idea of using electric for a paddle boat. But that will required much more testing. This project could keep me busy for years. Maybe I could get a Government grant to fund this project after all this boat does have to be child safe but more important is has to be adult safe.

It loks like Grandpa will have a wonderful time making boats, make sure you have an extra one for yourself. Have fun.

I don't know 'bout a gov grant, you don't look like an illegal alien and you're a Vet.
You would laugh at the re-builds in that boat. If I forget tomorrow remind me and I'll post the pix.

Waauw, compared to the plans, you sure did put quite a lot of work into it. Love the details.

For my taste, the paddle wheel setup at the rear is a bit clunky. If I were to rebuild this boat for my little nephew, I would make it a side paddle steamer so I could move the motor assembly amidships.
