I am making some toys for little ones (under 5) and wanted to paint them with bright colors -red, yellow, blue, etc - but also need to make sure the finishes are non-toxic. What paints do you use for that? Some kind of acrylic I would think but I not sure where to buy or what brands to look into. Any pointers? |

So long as the acrylic paint is made in the USA it is safe.

I have two projects going at the moment. One will be for a 4 year old so I was hoping to find an acrylic I could use since I think the project will look better that way. The other one is for a 2 year old and I was looking at the article on natural dyes for that project (basically just some animal shapes). Thanks. |

One thing you will notice to varying degrees if using dyes. The wood grain will raise and sometimes quite significantly requiring some sanding. Just a heads up.

I use a German paint calles Marabu Decorlack. They specifically mention that it can be used on toys and it´s saliva resistant. It is approved for use on toys by a european law.
