Default paint for toys?

I am making some toys for little ones (under 5) and wanted to paint them with bright colors -red, yellow, blue, etc - but also need to make sure the finishes are non-toxic. What paints do you use for that?

Some kind of acrylic I would think but I not sure where to buy or what brands to look into. Any pointers?

So long as the acrylic paint is made in the USA it is safe.

I have two projects going at the moment. One will be for a 4 year old so I was hoping to find an acrylic I could use since I think the project will look better that way. The other one is for a 2 year old and I was looking at the article on natural dyes for that project (basically just some animal shapes).

Thanks.

One thing you will notice to varying degrees if using dyes. The wood grain will raise and sometimes quite significantly requiring some sanding. Just a heads up.

I use a German paint calles Marabu Decorlack. They specifically mention that it can be used on toys and it´s saliva resistant. It is approved for use on toys by a european law.
