I hear folks say they use a brown paper bag for sanding/buffing out a projects finish. I gave it a try and it scratched the heck out of my project. Do you have to use a sanding block? |

What the heck did you have in the bag to begin with? I use it all the time, and don't notice what you noticed...........then again, my vision may not be as good as yours. I just use it folded up like I do with my sandpaper.

I use it all the time especially on pen turnings. Use it lightly not much pressure and use it as strips not crumbled up .

I'll be careful not to get it wrinkled. I have a project I need to finish so will give it another go this afternoon.

How did you come out with the paper bag Mike?? I also use it all the time and it gives my projects a nice smooth finish.

I use spray lacquer on most of my scroll work. I use the brown paper bag to rub out the little nubs that form on the finish. Just cut out a small piece and fold it in half, use it like sandpaper. Works great for me.

I too only use the paper bag after applying laquer. It does a beautiful job of buffing and smoothing the finish. However, I haven't found it does much for other finishes. I have absolutely no idea why it works with laquer. I don't have any idea why you got scratches either unless the paper was wrinkled. I just use a small piece of nice smooth paper. Lou

Lou I have used it with the Minwax fast drying poly and had great results. That is what I use on all my intarsia magnets and love how they come out.

I'll give it a try and make sure it's not wrinkled this time...I'll report back to the class with my findings...<smile>
