Hi all, has anyone besides me tried out the new 'green' paint thinner? The environmentally safe..um..stuff? I bought some at Walmart because that was all they offered. The Brand name is Kleen Strip. You have to shake it, it is the color and consistency of milk. My first thought was "that just ain't right!". I used it for washing polyurethane from my brushes and I have to say it did very well! It coats the brush with a white film just like you would expect milk to do and I wasn't sure if I should rinse that off, but I just wiped it and let it air dry to see what would happen. The brush was nice and pliable. I haven't tried this product for thinning paint and was wondering if anyone else has. What I do really like is the lack of odor. For anyone sensitive this may be a great product. I still am trying to accept washing my brushes in milk however.

What happens when you rinse them clean? Inquiring minds want to now...<grin>

I did try the "green" mineral spirits on one of my projects to get the pattern off. I have used the clear mineral spirits for years with no problem. When I saw that this new stuff was "milky" in appearance, I was sceptical at best. Well I was very sorry that I had bought this stuff and actually took it back to the store. My project was made of popular and the "green" mineral spirits stained the wood. From now on I will be enviormentally "unfriendly" and use the old stuff. DG Dewalt 788 |

Sarah, I don't know about it's availability. After reading about Richards results you may not want to try it. Richard, thank you for letting us all know about that problem! It seems to clean paint and poly from brushes but apparently isn't good for everything. I have to say I do like the lack of odor however.

Instead of mineral spirits, I use a citrus-based concentrated cleaner sold by Lee Valley, I don't dilute it much with water (like the instructions tell you to), but a few squirts onto the pattern from a spray bottle is enough to loosen up spray adhesive, tape, and even stuck on glue (not sure how that got stuck to my blank; I don't even chew gum!). Bob, being a citrus-based cleaner does this product have citrus oil in it? I have some citrus-based cleaner for my wood floors sold by Lee Valley but it has a 'water soluble oil' in it. Maybe it's not the same thing you are using.

Is the disposal of this paint thinner the same as regular paint thinner or can you just pour it out in the yard?

I had to down load the MSDS sheet to try to answer your question, this is the only statement about disposal: "Dispose in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations." Sorry that isn't more helpful.
