Default danish oil finish

after coating with danish oil and drying... is it okay to finish a piece with the clear acrylic spray?

What other types of finish would work over Danish oil? I'm in the same perdicament. Looking for something liquid that doesn't necessarily need to be wiped off much.

I've use Deft satin spray can over Danish oil....looks good to me.
They make it in brush on too.
I just lightly rub a brown paper bag between coats and final.

I am not sure that an acrylic, ie water based product, would go on well over an oil. A standard spirit based spray would be OK.

Danish oil is basically just a blend of varnish, drying oil and a thinner. You can top coat safely with a oil based varnish or polyurethane, but the big question is, why do you want to topcoat the danish oil? Depending on what you are trying to achieve, multi-step finish schedules may not be necessary. Simple is often just as good, if not better.

For me, I was talking about the heron I did. The pine just soaks up the stuff. Someone told me I can just put more danish oil on after it's had a chance to sit for awhile and it will put a bit of a sheen on it since the first coats have dried and sealed the piece. I may try this when I get it back from cWC.

I go both ways, depending on the project and how it will be used/displayed. If it's going to be handled a lot, I coat it. If not, I'll leave it alone. Personal preference.

I top coat with Deft in most cases. Be sure to wait at least 72 hours to make sure the oil is completely dry.

I always topcoat over Danish oil. I mainly use Deft clear spray , gloss or semigloss. Minwax polyurethanes work well over danish oil as well, but they tend to yellow the wood more than deft. Watco also makes a product very similar to Deft in aresol cans as well, which works great as well. One other clear aerosol that I've used and have been very happy with the results of is a Rustoleum Painters Touch Ultracover 2Xaerosol in clear, semigloss or gloss. It goes well either on raw wood or over danish oil. It coats nice, and builds faster than the other stuff I usually use.Sands easily and really looks nice.
Id recommend topcoating over danish oil simply because its easier to keep something fully sealed clean, dust really can hang on a project after a while, and if only oiled, it tends to not want to ever come clean when dusting.
