Hi i have been doing alot of yard art and fence peekers this summer and i have had a issue I need help with. I painted the items that were cut out exterior 3/4in.plywood I painted them with Acrylic paints then i used Minwax indoor/outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane Clear Gloss suppose to be Exceptional protection from Sunlight, Rain & Moisture, Temperature Changes. I made a huge Eagle to put on top of a tree stump in front yard any way when i used this stuff over white paint on the Eagle it turned it a kind of a yellow color and it makes the white face and the tail feather area yellow color now. What can I use out side on my yard art projects that will not turn yellow but stay clear after it is applied over the Acrylic paints to protect the item from the sun and weather all year around? I like the Gloss finish cause it is shiny.I put 3 coats of this Helmsman Spar Urethane on the projects. Any help would be very much appreciated.Thank you for your time.

Deb, unfortunately varnish has a bad habit of turning all white acrylic or latex paint yellow (ruined the look of a dresser my daughter painted for my granddaughter some years ago). It's a chemical reaction that is not reversible. My suggestion is to try a coat of Zinsser de-waxed shellac over the painted surfaces and then put on the varnish. The shellac should not yellow the white paint and the varnish will stick to the de-waxed shellac. george
