Default Humidity meets stupid!

I allways seem to have problems with gloss varnish, oil and water based. All the cans say to use them in less than 50% humidity.
Humidity is what you get back east or in Florida not here. We get the odd muggy day but thats all.
Anyway I am restoring a old dining table and the air in my shop is more blue than humid. Untill I actually looked up the local weather site for here. It was at 79%. Even today which is a lot cooler than the last few weeks it is still up at 63%.
So now I will check before I do more varnish. After I sand off all the coats I have allready done.
So heads up about the humidity level, it seems to be a lot higher than I thought and probably is elsewhere as well.

Definition of relative humidity-----the sweat you break into when you get caught fooling around with your sister-in-law.

50% humidity - what is that? I don't know that I would even know what 50% humidity feels like. If it ever got to 50% humidity here in southern New Jersey we wouldn't have a clue what to do. We generally consider any day that the humidity is lower than 75% to be a gorgeous, simply wonderful day. New Jersey is the only place that I know of that can have 100% humidity and NOT be raining. Several years ago I visited West Africa and the humidity there was less than it was here in New Jersey.

Hey Richard, take a trip to Nova Scotia sometime! We're not as hot as Jersey, but I can assure you that 100 percent humidity is not one bit uncommon in July and August, especially on the coast. I think I need to grow some gills. In desperation, Hub and I built a drying box to help dry my intarsia. I don't usually do intarsia in summer, but am this year, and found nothing would dry in our weather. It's been just wonderful and I advise anyone with a humidity problem to consider building one (or else take the summer off). Fog has it charms, but not day and day out!
