Default Any suggestions.

A few years back, I made a plant stand for my wife. She wanted it to look like and Old Marble (stone) Mediterranean style. So after I build the stand and primed it. I coated it with Dry wall Joint mud. Before it could dry, I patted it down with a fine sponge (the type with small holes). Let it dry and painted it with flat white paint. It looked good, but sorry to say it was not a very durable finish. I was thinking of doing it again. Any suggestions on how to make it a more durable finish. I was thinking (I smell wood burning...better quit thinking) and outdoor clear Polly or something.

I'm not sure of the name (maybe fleck-stone?) but there is a line of spray paint that give the look and feel of stone.

I use a lot of light coats. Some of my pieces have fooled people into thinking it's real stone - until they pick it up.

For a Marbled effect I like to use acrylic paint and a feather to do the veining..light color typically and a bit of a swirl as you go across or down a piece...and never less then 3 different colors .. finishing with a lacquer based spray..multiple coats..
would love to see your finished piece!
