I think Lacewood is such a beautiful wood, it needs no help. A clear varathane is all I use. Marsha

Lacewood looks nice sanded really fine, and just clearcoated. If you want a little different look to it, soak it in bleach a while then rince in water and let it dry. The speckles will lighten up even more and almost look like they glow in the dark. It also takes on a neat look if dyed. What project do you have in mind for it anyways?

I'm making a small - 4"x6" trophy pattern for the wife, one of Steve Good's patterns. She's been having a hard time taking care of her Mother lately (alzhimers) and I figured this would pick up her spirits some. I have had this piece of wood for 3-4 years and figured it was about time to use it for something special. My thought was to use tung or danish oil. But since this is the first time I have used lacewood I thought I would pick some brains. Thanks for the tips.

I use bartley's clear gel varnish on all the woods and it looks great on the lacewood.

I've only made one box from lacewood, but I rubbed on many layers of tung oil and it turned out beautiful.

Gloss lacquer looks really good on lacewood.

| Senior Member | Thats something you'd have to experiment with. I done it on turned pens, and soaked those for around 24 hours, give or take.
