Default Finishing Some Pine

Gang,

I'm making something from Pine. It was smooth as a baby's butt before I put the first coat of Varathane on it now it's rough. What grade of sandpaper should I use between coats?
Thanks
James

G'day James,
320g should be plenty fine enough.
It's the finest I use.

James : Everybody has their own ways , I use 0000 steel wool or 320 sandpaper or even higher between coats . I also use air to blow off after sanding just to make sure and get all the elements off of the project after sanding . .............Marshall.................

Using a tack cloth after sanding is always a good idea,

James, wipe the pine with a damp cloth, let dry then sand with 320 grit paper or fine steel wool. The damp cloth will raise the grain, then sand it before applying the Varathane. Vacuum and tack before applying the finish.

After you give it your final coat of varnish (and it is completely dry) use a piece of brown paper bag to give it a final sanding -

Yep...What they said they all work! Pine can be harder than it is...pun intended!
