Finishing Cocobolo My first scroll saw project was a set of grips for my .22 pistol.
I attempted to finish them with Teak oil, which didn't work out all that well, so I sanded it off, and tried Tru-Oil, which did somewhat better, but not perfect. After sanding to 1000 grit, the finish is matte, but with shiny streaks where it looks like the grain is filled.
I'm not really happy with the set, due to newbie mistakes, and I have another nice piece of Cocobolo I had earmarked for a knife handle that I could use for another set, if I can't repair the woops. For that, I have to re-saw an area, then set a small piece of wood in.
What sort of glue works well with the oily Cocobolo? Any hints? |
