| Translucent Paints for Acrylic? Hi All,
I know I've seen it done before but I haven't a clue how. I have a 4 X 8 sheet of clear 1/4" acrylic that I thought would be kind of neat for the skeletons in the latest SSWC if I could somehow add color to the acrylic. Has anyone ever done something like this with any success? I'm guessing that it would need to be done after cutting.

| G'day Kev,
I'd say you're right about applying the paint after cutting.

| Kevin,
Never done it on acrylic but have lots of times on glass. I use very light coats until I get the opaqueness (I think I just made up a word) that I want. I use a water based paint thinned to about the consistency of poly. Keep your gun moving and try not to overlap.

| Cutting it I can handle though I do it somewhat differently than him, it's the coloring I'm curious about. I have enough that I'm going to try some different methods. I really like the stuff John posted, I want to see if I can find it on this side of the pond, that sounds perfect.
Thanks for the suggestions!

| Hey Kevin, I think that idea is pretty cool.
I enjoy working with acrylic, and adding colour is a great idea. I've used Plaid paints (glass paint) in the past. They have some cool effects for coloured etching looks too.
Let us know how your experiments turn out.
Take care

| My wife does what she calls reverse painting on the backside of glass.painting it in layers so when viewed from the front it looks like what she wants it to, but from the back you cant tell what it is.

| Kevin,
I've used parchment paper on the backside of clear acrylic light panels to make lanterns because I didn't have any colored acrylic. Used spray glue on the acrylic and parchment paper and carefully applied the paper to the acrylic to keep out the wrinkles. Worked fine.

| I used to make exit signs for work out of acrylic. I left the paper on them and used it as a stencil.
I used Krylon paint. I am not sure if that is sold in the States.
There are some plastic paints which are formulated to bond with acrylics. I can see lots of potential with this project. Ghostly transparent images Mwhahahahah.
Sorry I got carried away. I love Halloween.
