Default Cherry Finishing

I'm looking for a method to finish cherry to a semi-dark luster. Any thoughts?

I saw a show on DYI called woodworks. He said to leave the wood in the sun a few hours every day and it will darken.

Cherry darkens over time but as skeeter said you can accelerate that by putting it in the sun. Personally, I typically use either Danish or Tung Oil for cherry. If I want to add a shine to it, I spray it with several coats of either gloss or semi-gloss lacquer.

Default there are a couple threads about....

Fuming cherry to make it darker with ammonia..
I've used this technique quite a bite to get different shades to my cherry..

I use Cherry stain (I like the gel) on it then Deft sand sealer and Deft satin finish.

Since it will darken over time anyhow - why stain! I did a dachshund and had a show coming up so after finishing the cherry dachshund, I set the piece out in the sun for several days - then finished it. Just speeded up the process. Came out perfect!

Darkened up quite a bit- and will continue to do so.
