Default Finish Test - Need Feedback

Hi folks,

how do you like the finish on the dolphin?
Any feedback - good or bad will be appreciated.

By the way, notice the way the grain runs - completly unintentional

I cut out a Dolphin for my Daughter, mounted it on a dowel with a base and painted it. Like the grain direction. I guess finish wise is up to you, mabey a clear satin finish.

What I did was soak the dolphin in tea overnight and after it dried put a coat of wax on it.

Better or worst then oil?

Looks good to me.....creative thinking with the tea. All you have to do now is make a coat hanger for it. just teasing.

To me it appears unfinished. I dont prefer a gloss finish, but a semi-gloss. That is all personal preference however, whatever you like is the right finish.I would opt for danish oil, topped with deft semigloss. I did take a closer look at grain direction. Where you screwed up is that you should have said you CAREFULLY placed the pattern to get the most out of the grain direction . When looking at it magnified though, it almost looks like some vertical scratches or machining marks in the hind 2/3rds of the fish.It could just be in the photo though.

Thanks for all the feedback folks.

One of the things that bother me, due to my inexperience in these matters, is that it's difficult for me to look at a pattren and see the final results.
