Default Finish for coaster

A couple months ago my Mom asked me to make her a couple of corner brackets.
Corner brackets

She loved booth styles, but opted to for the curves.
Here's the unfinished cut.

I decided to make some matching coasters with the vines to go with the brackets.

Should I fill the cuts? If so with what? And, will Watco Danish oil hold up to occasional use?

I am not sure but I think all oil finishes will need the odd touch up in the future.

I just picked up some saladbowl oil finish, I want to try that on some projects since it is food safe.

Nice designs on the brackets and coasters!

my hubby made some and used that 2 part pour stuff that hardens. After awhile it is showing cracking and dulling after actually using it as a coaster. Not sure if it was him or the product tho.

If I may are the coasters for cold drinks or hot ones? Since yo made them of Oak heat shouldn't bother them as is or with a natrual stain. If on the other hand they are for cold drinks Oak repels water and this will put the water on the table top you are trying to protect. I have had this problem and ended putting a rimaround the edge to hold the condensation in like a bowl. Of cousre the cut outs need to be filled with something like table top polyurethane (hobby lobby).

The pattern and the wood work are impressive. I strive to get as good as ya'll.
