Default What to finish with

Hi all,

I haven't posted a lot here, but I have been reading a ton, and cutting some.

So, I have done this Class A Motorhome key holder based on the Summer '03 pattern, out of 3/8" baltic birch plywood, and it turned out not bad for a beginner. I would like to put a finish on it and give it to a friend, but I have no idea what to use to finish it, or how to do it.

What would be a good finish for this?

Thanks,

Leonard

If you want it to remain light in color, just use a few coats of deft clear wood finish (I prefer semi-gloss), which can be found at Walmart, or big box stores in aerosol cans. Directions on can. You may want to coat it in danish oil first as well. If you want it colored, you can stain it using wood stains, you could dye it using wood dyes, paint, or even leather dyes. The possibilities are endless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice cutting. Dale

thanks for the ideas Dale. I do like the light color, so I will think I will go with the clear wood finish. I didn't know I could pick it up at WalMart, I am so there!

Thanks.

Hi Subervia, i make lots of this great key holder the 4 of them and sell them very good, the way i finish them is with orange oil only, just like that and are flying of my hands, then you can do it like Lucky788 said with clear semigloss.

Subervia, you can get the Orange oil in Home depot in painting dpt.

Let us know what finish you used when you finish.

Thanks

I went to HD last night and picked up both the orange oil (in the spray bottle, I hope this one will work), as well as the danish oil. Plus too much other stuff (finance minister about killed me there, but I needed a new Dremel hehe).

I have some test stuff and I will try them both out. One question though, does the orange smell disappear after a while?

Thanks

Nice work. I have cut a few of those also using Oak. I finished by wet sanding (600grit) with a clear Danish oil. This really left a nice finish.
