| Danish oil lemon oil application Hi All,
I have a quick question. What do you use to apply either Lemon oil or Danish oil to your pieces? I have a plastic bin that I keep lemon oil in and I have dipped a couple of pieces. I was wondering what type of rags??? would you use to help apply the oil?
Also, could I follow the same procedure using Danish oil, meaning could I keep the Danish oil in a tupperware type container then dip the finished pieces?
I like the Lemon oil because my workshop is a portion of my garage and I don't want to worry about it suddenly bursting into flames .
Thanks in advance.
Any advice is welcomed and appreciated.
Cheers.
Chris

| You can dip with Danish oil, no problems
And as for applying Danish oil, I've used everything from paintbrushes to paper towels to shop rags to ratty old T-shirts--I don't think it matters much as long as they are lint- and dust-free. I like the soft cotton shop rags best, and I just throw them right in the washer when I get done, so there's no oily rags laying around. I haven't used lemon oil yet, so no clue on that. |

| I dip, use old tee shirts, but mostly the paper shop towels. Used rags and towels are draped over the garbage can outside. At the last meeting of our WW club a member said he smelled something burning just as he was going to bed. Went to the garage and found his wiping rags smoldering. They were in a metal garbage can so doubtful if anything real bad would have happened, but spontaneous combustion DOES happen.

| Same here, old t-shirts, rags, have used paper towels in a pinch with both lemon oil and danish oil. Left paper towels balled up on my workbench after using lemon oil sitting in a pie tin and didn't need to worry about anything. Left a nice lemon scent in the garage too.

| Thanks Guys,
I finished a candle holder with lemon oil. I had cut the candle holder from red oak. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the lemon oil made the grain pop for lack of a better word.
Brought it inside and wife says "Looks nice, do you have anything darker"
I am going to get some walnut stock, until then, if I were to use Danish oil, the walnut shade would that bring the wood (Red oak or poplar) to darker shades?
Thanks again to all who replied.
Cheers.
Chris

| I would think it would give it a brown hue. Stain some scrap and then you'll know for sure. |
