| Simple question I've been cutting mainly with red oak, bb and (s)crap wood, and finishing with BLO. One of the next things I'm doing will be with walnut. Someone suggested finishing with Danish Oil. What I'm curious about is what kind of Danish Oil (Natural, Dark, Medium or Light). I'm thinking natural, but would appreciate input.
Thanks

| I vote for letting the wood speak for itself too. I've never used anything but natural. Even natural Danish Oil will darken the wood somewhat, just like water does. It gives it a rich look and brings out the grain. 2 or 3 coats with light sanding or steel wool between ... I love the look!!

| I make lots of music-boxes using walnut. I agree the only way to go is with natural Danish oil.

| Kevin,
I have a done a lot of work with walnut, from a buffet for my dining room to scrolled pictures. I always finish walnut with polyurathane varnish. Two or three coats seems to seal the wood and bring out all of the natural color and grain of the walnut. If you want, you can preseal it with a thinned coat (denatured alcohol) of dewaxed shellac and then need only one coat of polyu. Any finish will stick to dewaxed shellac.

| I use the Natural Danish oil for most of the walnut I do, the exception being when some of the wood is lighter than the rest in which case I will use the Walnut Danish oil as it will darken the wood and even up the tone of the wood across the project. |

| Kevin, Clear coat of some kind, don't cover the walnut beautiful color. I use Clear Poly, on all the walnut i use. Best with semi gloss or satin

| I use natural on everything. Really like the richness it brings out in Black Walnut.
