|  BB stain absorption Has anyone ever had BB absorb stain unevenly? I've had a couple pieces that seem to do this. I've been using Danish oil and that was fine but I've begun using various light colored stains as a change of pace but run into the uneven stain issue. Should I use some conditioner first like you would on a softwood like pine or something?

| Yeah, you'll often need to seal (or condition) the wood. I use thinned down shellac or a glue size (thinned down white glue). The commercially available conditioners also work well. Bob

| Capt'n, Birch is birch is birch. I blotches when stained like pine. Put a light, thinned denatured alcolhol, dewaxed (Zinsser) shellac on the ply first. Then lightly sand with 320 grit paper before staining. I may help if you stain while the shellac is still wet.
