| This is just a flying guess on my part. Deft spray is a lacquer, right? And most of the salad bowl finishes are oil. Therefore, no, don't use them together, because lacquer over oil doesn't work, according to my books. I've never tried it myself. |

| Salad bowl finish is oil. Usually mineral or walnut oil. I wouldn't use anything over it, especially if you are using it on something that will hold food.
I like a rubbed oil finish much better than what you can get from Deft. Of course, if you want a maintenance free finish and the finished product is not meant for holding food, try mixing Tung oil, BLO and poly. The finish will show off the natural grain of the wood.

| this was just for some little magnets I did. I didn't want to use the gel I had and was looking for something quick and easy. I tried it and so far it seems fine. We'll see what happens!
Thanks guys. |

| One way to test it is to use packing tape on it. Press the tape down onto the finish then peel the tape back off. If the packing tape is full of finish, then the finish isn't truly holding, even though it may look and feel like it is. Wood magazine tip I read. Tip was being used to prove the fact that you do need to sand between coats of finish, and you truly do. You don't see or feel a difference, but if the finish isn't stuck on good, over time it will slowly peel off and look pretty bad. And...I too have no idea if laquer truly sticks on a salad bowl finish. I do know that if it was for a bowl you were going to eat out of, I'd still eat from it laquer or just typical mineral oil finish. Once it's cured, it's just plastic. Not that plastic is good for you, but one can argue that everything is bad for you and so we should maybe go sit in a closet till we die?

| That's a good tip Jeff! Thanks. I'll definitely give it a try. Here is what I made...Kittyback magnets. I didn't want to go through the trouble of putting on the bartley's but after going through the process I did- may just as well have. I ended up routing out a little gouge in the back between the tail and the body and putting some glue in there and a piece of skewer. This will help keep the tail from leaving the cat since I didn't put any backing on them. kittybacks_1_1.jpg |

While rooting through a pile looking for the blue stuff, I found this one with bird's eyes all over it. Hadn't found a use for it until now- thought it'd make a cute "Bengal" cat! |

| Great cats. I like the pine you found. Got to grab and hang onto things like that that show up. I have some BE walnut (sorry, can't sell it for intarsia, it's veneer) I have gotten hold of. Great stuff. Same kind of dark eyes, but in a nice grey walnut.
