Default Tongue Drum

Hi im just wondering if Silky Oak would be suitable for the top of a tongue drum?

I'm not familiar with Silky Oak, and from Wikipedia it looks like there are several very different woods by that name. You typically want a very dense hardwood such as Paduak for the soundboard. Oak in general would work better for the sides, but I'm not sure the oak I'm familiar with is related to what you have.

If what you have isn't too hard to come by I'd give it a try and see what it sounds like.

i would definetly prefer Paduak but i havnt been able to find any, and i also have a big silky oak door just the right size

I have a very nice wide 3/4" thick piece of black walnut. Do you think that would work?
I really want to make one too.
