Where is a good place to get casting resin? Is this stuff compatible with wood? Must I cover the wood completely or can I cover just a portion of my project? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Wood Dog! That goo sure is expensive. Nice advice in sending me to YouTube... Who would have thought to look there. I enjoyed watching several videos. I was thinking about making some coasters and wanted to protect the wood. Maybe I might want to consider just giving the coasters several coats of Spar Varnish. I know that will hold up to the abuse and will cost quite a bit less. The jury is still out. I would like some 1st hand information. Thanks for your input.

Hi Rick, Michael's normal prices are usually high, but they almost always have coupons which can bring things down into reasonable ranges (usually either 40%-50% on a single item or 20% on the whole purchase). Jeff had an article about using alumilite (Casting Resin and Silicone Mold Making Rubber) in a recent issue of the other mag. I don't think I'd use it just as a protective surface, but do like it as a material in itself. Not as cool as glass, but works better with wood ![]() --Rob |
