Most of my work using quarter inch thick wood has been done with Baltic birch plywood. It gives a reasonable finish. Occasionally, I have thought it would be good to use a good quality hardwood. Unfortunately, every timber merchant I've approached in the UK says that it is 'not worth their while' to produce such thin boards or that wood of this thickness is intrinsically fragile, due to grain, and not fit for purpose. Having seen the work of the US scrollers here and in the magazines, I know this not to be true. Does anyone know of any UK suppliers? Alternatively, is it financially viable to buy it in small quantities from the US? I'd welcome advice and recommendations.

A similar question was asked here recently. I hope you find the links helpful.
