Default Ceramic Tile

Has anyone had any experience cutting ceramic tile.
We are going to be re doing our bathroom and kitchen. I saw the price of some fancy tile rosettes and thought they looked easy to do.

I know there are diamond encrusted blades, I just wondered if anyone had tried this before.

I've cut it the traditional way quite a bit - on a tile saw, but that was just plain straight cutting. Do you mean on the scroll saw? I can't imagine cutting anything more than a couple pieces on a scroll saw. "Most" diamond or carbide impregnated blades for cutting stone, ceramic, etc are meant to be used wet. Though I've never used or seen any scroll saw tile cutting blades, so those may be different.

I had 4" diamond blades for an angle grinder and some were marked for dry use, but most were marked wet use.

That was a long time ago though. There may be newer blades out now that I'm not familiar with.

You are right though about tiles being expensive. I've had some serious sticker shock looking at tile.

Carl,

The best type saw will have a table that you put the tile on and slide the table past the blade. You can make jigs to hold the tile at any angle out of plastic cutting boards. Amazon.com: MK Diamond 155779 MK-470 1/2-Horsepower 7-inch Wet Tile Saw: Home Improvement is the type saw to look for. Be sure it has a recirculating water pump.
