Default I'm Guessin' Yellow Pine

I guessing this is yellow pine but it feels heavy for pine. Any thoughts?

Just picked up a few 8 ft x 6-10 in pieces of red cedar, butternut , cherry oak, cherry, birch. it's all rough cut but some beautiful stuff. I'm trying to talk him out of a load of butternut and cherry. He inherited at least 100,000 ft of assorted rough cut lumber stacked where it fell. Trying to get my hands on as much as I can before he finds a buyer for the lot of it.
If I manage I'll let you know.
I'll send some pics of what I have later.
This is the only piece of this I found in 40+ stacks.

It looks like a softwood what part of the country did it come from. my first guess would be doug fir if you are out west. fir especially old growth is much heavier than pine. It looks like heart wood which would make it heavier no matter what it is. Mike

I second the douglas fir. Our Lowes sells it along side the oak and maple.

The piece was found in a mountain of assorted wood all cut, sawn and stacked on site in Port Kent NY. Port Kent is 60 miles south of Canada right on Lake Champlain.

All our Lowes has is red oak, aspen, poplar, pine and a shocked blank stare if you ask a question. I ask about tools just for the entertainment sometime.
The only place that can top them is Sears. My wife says I'm an a*&%$@#.
I figure it's just my turn.

oily, yellow pine is usually heavier and harder than white pine.
