Default Look at this piece of Poplar

I stopped by Lowe's on Friday to pick up a couple of pieces of wood and noticed this somewhat unique poplar board among the group. Even though this board is going to end up being used for utilitarian purposes I thought you might want to check it out. It sure would make for a nice piece of wood for an intarsia project!

Yes - I would love that piece to timber for my intarsia. I'm sure others would too. Maybe you might reconsider using it for "utilitarian purposes" - just put it aside. A perfect project will come along.

Well if you are going to use it as a shelf, just screw it down, so you will be able to easily remove it when you decide to get into another Intarsia challenge. Who knows, it may be just the piece you need.

Rick, this piece of wood is a real treasure! I know I would keep it aside for a "golden spot" in a next intarsia project! Lucky you!

Tough using it for something not showing off it's grandness....

I had to look at it twice thinking it could not possibly be a piece of poplar. Usually poplar is sort of white and green. This board is white, brown, red and dark green in the center. It would make a sharp looking shelf! Maybe I'll hold it aside for awhile and see what comes up.
