Default Drift wood

Hey guys. I picked up some drift wood while I was out on the river and now I have around 30 to 40 pounds of the stuff. They range from under a foot in lenght and 1/4" thick to over 7 foot in lenth and 3-4" thick. Does anyone know what I can make with it.

Thanks

I made some really kewl welcome signs from a chunk I found at the coast a few years ago. Took almost a year of drying time and then I ruined a band saw blade tryin to re-saw it from all the sand and grit...But it turned out really nice.

I've done drift wood sculpture for years. Take a nice pice of drift wood - with a unique shape and finish it like fine furniture. Scrape the outer edge off, reshape parts to enhance them then take a deer horn to the surface to compress it and shine it. It's pretty easy and fun. No cost involved. Google Driftwood Sculpture and see what comes up.

Looks great but I don't have enough wood for that. I originally got the driftwood because I saw a intarsia project that used it for accents on the base.

I use stuff like that for the tree branches that my nuthatches sit on. I know a gal that used to paint on driftwood - you need to powerwash it or something first to get all the sand out unless you prefer the sandy rustic look.

The project I'm talking about was a fish on a base with driftwood around it.

Janette is right about the sand. All my driftwood comes from the beach. It may not be so bad from a fresh water river. I used some when I made my heron for the perch.

Hey, Aaron, about all I can think of is like the driftwood that I have, with Fish mounted on it. I do have a carved fish mounted with a stiff wire holding it to the driftwood. Looks pretty cool. Guess you will have to cut something out, or carve something to mount on it. Good Luck. Perk
