This is not meant to be a bragging article but a situation in which I am in need of suggestions I recently inherited a barn full of wood (Approx 20x30 ft) with lumber stacked 3.5 feet tall It is full of walnut, oak, cherry and lynn anywhere from 1/4'' to 3.5'' thick (all ruff sawn) and almost all being approx 8 feet in legnth. The wood was cut some time ago and is nice and dry. My question is what can I/should I do with the wood. I am an hobbyist wood worker but have no where on my property to store that quantity of timber. And I am open to the possibility of selling some of the wood. The property is in the tri state MO, IA, IL area. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

boy, now thats a dilemma! Craigslist would work for selling it. I think though if I had that dilemma, Id get one of those "pods" rental things, and stack that sucker full!!! The 1/4th thick stuff most likely isnt of much use though. If its 1/4th thick rough, by the time its properly surfaced, there wont be much to work with. Why dont you run a few various pieces through the planer, and show us what ya got!!!

Have you considered giving it to the local school district for use in their shop programs? I'm sure they'd love to have so much fine wood, and you can probably take an excellent tax deduction.

well for me, I would defiantly find a way to keep it. first of all I would spray it for bugs. then cut it to size. that I could sticker up .get it out of the sun. and cover it. I am sure lots of folks would buy it. if they new it was for sale. let them come look see. and sale per board foot. warped or not. as is. I sure wish I could come get some. but live in calif. you could go on ebay. and sale a lot of it. it just take some time. your friend Evie
