Default Oregon ????

G'day all.
I sliced up some timber yesterday. We call it Oregon or Oregon Pine.

What would you blokes call this. (and NO, wood is not a suitable answer) Just beat you to it Jim

It was used quite extensively prior to the late 60's for building projects.
When the Old Fremantle Wool Stores where tore down a few years ago there where huge Oregon Timbers in the roof about 24" x 12" x 30'+

I scored 8 lengths of this from an old mine building, each are 140mm x 190mm x about 8' long.

BTW, it cuts like butter on the scroll saw.

Well John, if it IS Oregon pine, I'd call it "imported from another country" for you.

Glad to help out anytime mate.

Jerry

John...I'm pretty sure that is western red cedar by the look of it. If not then it's Douglas fir - both grow abundantly here in Oregon and are harvested for building products. They're "Pine Trees" - what most people refer to any christmas tree type tree that has needles and stays green all winter - but definitely not real pine.

Looks like Cedar. It should have a strong oder when cut (but a pleasant oder).

Looks like doug fur for sure. I'm a carpenter in the Seattle area and we use a lot of that stuff , it sands and shapes nice but is a little soft for scrolling, stack cut or, extra small blade, lots of fuzzies.
