Default Different twist on portrait material.

Thought I would try something different for a portrait. I found a piece of Formica brand laminate at my local Habitat For Humanity store. It kind of looks like slate. I thought I would try cutting one of Charles Dearings patterns. I adhered the laminate to a piece of 1/8" masonite with contact cement, placed a piece of 1/8" baltic birch plywood on top and taped it all together, glued on the pattern and covered it with packing tape.

I haven't seen laminate used like this so I thought I would give it a try. I think it gives the portrait sort of an antique look. What do you think? All comments welcome.

PS. The first picture is the Baltic birch the second is the laminate.

Al,
What a great idea, I love the texture it gives to the portrait. Thanks for the idea

I really do like that idea. It does give it a nice texture. How do the blades hold up cutting formica?

The laminate is a little harder on blades than some of the other materials but not to bad. I think I might try 2 layers of packing tape next time.
