Thought I would try something different for a portrait. I found a piece of Formica brand laminate at my local Habitat For Humanity store. It kind of looks like slate. I thought I would try cutting one of Charles Dearings patterns. I adhered the laminate to a piece of 1/8" masonite with contact cement, placed a piece of 1/8" baltic birch plywood on top and taped it all together, glued on the pattern and covered it with packing tape. I haven't seen laminate used like this so I thought I would give it a try. I think it gives the portrait sort of an antique look. What do you think? All comments welcome. PS. The first picture is the Baltic birch the second is the laminate.

I really do like that idea. It does give it a nice texture. How do the blades hold up cutting formica?

| The laminate is a little harder on blades than some of the other materials but not to bad. I think I might try 2 layers of packing tape next time.
