Ok , I just have to ask. so many, probley all , use tape in some form to tape their project, before or after placeing the pattern on, the wood. I would like to know why????? I just don't see the need for it. it is exspencive, and seams to not do anything in my cutting to help my cutting better, except for the thicker woods, or stacks. I can see how it might lube the blade while cutting. on a thick piece. and seams like some say it is easyer to remove, with no glue left on the project. but. the blue painters tape will not come off easy if left on too long. and why would someone wont to put tape all over the project??? seams like alot of money when not really needed. what is the reason, and or , beef, in just glueing the pattern to the wood?? I just hardly ever need the extra stress, or the money envolved with putting tape on first or second. to glueing the pattern on. someone please tell me the reasons. thanks your friend Evie |

I'm with you Evie. The only time I used tape was when I was making a 3D ornament. It seemed to help there, but I don't use it for my regular cutting. Theresa |

I don't use tape except for stack cutting but I did buy 4 rolls of 65 yards each on Sunday for $4.65. Since I am doing a lot of stack cutting and mailing a lot of stuff out, I needed more than one roll. Seemed like a great deal. Cheap stuff but functional. That's all I cared about.

I use the blue painters tape. I found it easier to remove the tape and the pattern that way. When I didn't use the tape, I would paint the finished product with mineral spirits and then wait for it to work. My problem would be that I would forget to check and when I came back the spirits had dried and the pattern was on tighter than ever. If I waited (like watching a pot of water boil) it was forever. Just my opinion but to me it is a lot easier to remove the tape than fussing with the mineral spirits. And speaking of costs, in my neck of the woods mineral spirits aren't that cheap.

I use the wide purple painters tape......it's a 30 day tape. Removes very easily even if I've left it on past the 30 days. I don't like the smell of mineral spirits and would rather stay away from as many chemicals as possible. I like the purple tape, and use a blue glue stick, so I can see the glue. I don't find the cost that prohibitive. I've spent more on movie popcorn, and the tape lasts much longer. If I have to fasten wood for stack cutting I use hot glue. A few dabs around the peremiter does it for me. No problems with either method for me so far. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. as an aside: Evie do you still have your birds?

Evie - I don't use the spray glue or turpentine either. I use a glue stick to put my patterns down. Then water to remove them. I don't do the very intensive, million of holes needed, fretwork. If I did, I might go to using the tape. |
