Default Info please?

I am thinking of getting into turning. Would like to know a couple things. What kind of wood can I use? I have taken down some trees in my yard. I usually give the wood away to friends for wood stoves. But if I can use it for turning, maybe I'll keep some. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind/size of lathe I should be looking at. I guess the biggest thing I'd be doing is bowls.
Thanks for your help.

As I compose this reply, there have been no other replies so here is my opinion.

There are several very good forums dedicated to turning, and some generic mainstream woodworking forums, where aid and advice for the woodworking lathe newbie can be found.

If you send a Private Message (P.M.) to member of this forum William Young he might invite you to join his woodworking forum: Woodworking Friends. There are many very good turners who visit his site often. W.Y. is a good turner himself.

Wood Magazine has many turners who visit the Wood Magazine's forum who will go on, and on, and on, about the tools you need to start off with, training, books, and how to put an edge on your turning tools.

I have heard a lot of good things about the American Association of Woodturners and their forum. The American Association of Woodturners homepage

You can turn absolutely anything , including that which is not even visible to the human eye...eventually you'll know what I mean! yep...I'm sitting here thinking what you can't turn and I figure the only thing you can't turn is something that will kick you A@#$ if you try!
