Poplar as substitute for BB?

I use nothing but solid woods of all types for my plaques, "portrait" and fret work cutting, from Ash to Zebrawood and as many species in between I can get my mitts on. It is the vast variety of grain, color, figure and just plain beauty that solid wood offers, that draws me to use it instead of plywood.
There are draw backs such as strength for small intricate fret work, but I am careful how I cut and really have never had a problem with breakage.

David, I use ash a lot also. I like to leave a natural edge on it, and try to make the wood grain work with the pattern. For example the ripples in the water or the round sun...... Connie
