I have been lucky to get a lot of free walnut logs which I mill myself. When I have to buy, its usually 3/4 (which I checked) or 5/4 and thicker, which I then mill down with a 14" bandsaw and a 12" planer and or a hand held belt sander followed by an orbital sander. A lot of work but worth it. I only have one lumber yard near enough that carries exotic or unusual woods but they are so very expensive that I just stick to maple, mahogany, walnut, oak, cherry and poplar. I also buy a fair amount of plywood from scrolling catalogues. Sawdustus

I went ahead and closed the poll. I don't think I'll be going down this road as there just doesn't seem to be much interest and it looks like the majority of folks mill thier own anyhow (which I found kind of surprising considering the number of places that carry thin lumber at ludicrous prices). Thanks for the input all!

Yup - 8/4 stock and mill it. WAAAAAAYYYYYY cheaper even including the cost of gas to Salt Lake City and back. (which is not far, but the price of gas is too high!)
