| Holy Timber mill Batman!! So my wife and I are getting ready to remodel the kitchen (OK, she is ready and I am doing it) and our cabinet designer works in a cabinet shop. Since I have never built cabinets he asked if I wanted some scrap wood to practice my routing skills on for the rails and stiles. I said sure, thinking he was going to drop off maybe a dozen or so small pieces of scrap hardwood. Holy cow!! He had his mini van stuffed!! white oak, knotty alder, cherry, some poplar, some huge pieces of pine and a smidgen of walnut. At least that is what I have been able to identify so far.
Want wood for your crafts? Make friends with a cabinet maker! DSCF5900.JPG DSCF5901.JPG DSCF5902.JPG DSCF5903.JPG DSCF5904.JPG |

| I am amazed at his generosity and plan on sharing with some local scrollers as well. I hope to get out there tonight and sort it out. |

| Wow Thomas, I guess I should come to the scrollers meeting next time. It is just that the price of gas now makes it so I don't like travel very far any more. Nice haul though.

| Hey Thomas--Utah, California. Is that local enough to share? Looks like you've got a lot of supplies, just got to figure out what to do with them. Thats a fun problem. lol

| No kidding! There is approx 15 bd ft of 8/4 White oak just to start with! My mind is reeling with the possibilities! I did pick up my rail and stile bits today so I will be practicing on some of the stock but just enough to feel confident about what I am doing, there is plenty of wood for that that I can probably salvage even after I maul it on the router. And the Cherry, did I mention the cherry? Oh my gosh! I am like a kid in a candy store. I will be spending the weekend cleaning and organizing the shop so I can get started on learning to use the bits and the dove tail router jig. Yeehaw!! |
