Roger, I live in Williams Lake and that is the only wood the mills are processing right now.The further north you head the more there is. It really is quite a sad sight to see, all the trees standing dead.
Hi Sherri .
I have fond memories of Williams lake . I used to live at the Dog CreeK trailer park while doing an apprenticeship with the Dept. of Hwys . That was a long time ago ,1978 . Great people and good times . The first time I arrived there in April from Victoria the ice was still on the lake .I could go on and on about my time there ,but another day .
Is the wood being sold at the local lumber retailers ?
Cheers Roger
Roger, I'm heading in to town today and will check for you. I'm not sure if they are selling it at the stores as I just go out in the yard and have a neighbor mill it up for me on his portable mill. He has so many dead trees on his 10 acres.
Sorry I didn't get back to you Roger. I have been a bit busy with work and only got into one store. They had pine but nothing with any of the blue stain in it. It seems they are not really keeping it around but shipping it out of country where they can get more money for it. Like I said earlier, the trees are all standing dead here that are pine and looks like they aren't making any money here with it since anyone can just go into their yard and cut it down.
Sherri Hi . It seems that we ship everything out of the country and in the end ,buy it back at a higher price .The other wood I inquired about is Horse Chestnut . I sent an email to one of the large suppliers and had no reply . When I saw Bill Young's bowls ,I thought it would be a nice contrast in conjunction with darker woods . Looks like a trip to the mainland to see what I can find. My brother in law at Hefley Creek said ,the small mill near his place was cutting it . A good excuse to visit the Kamloops area .
Must be getting close to the old Williams Lake Stampede time ? Do craft vendors set up booths ? Can't remember . Thanks for looking .
Cheers . Roger
