I always get a giggle when I see that. The bristlecone pine tree is eons older than the Kauri tree. Bristlecone pine tree's can live 11000 yrs, as stumps have been found and that's how many rings they had! There are still some alive today at almost 5000 yrs old, where a Kauri tree wouldn't last more than a few percent of that age. There has been bristlecone wood found and dated at millions of years old, although it is no longer usable, but no wood would be usable at that age. The Kauri wood just happens to have landed in a spot that preserved it for 50,000 yrs. You can find stumps of Bristlecone twice or more than that age that is still usable. It's not the worlds oldest wood, but sure is a wonderful sales gimmick.

Price begins at $25 per board foot x 1 inch thick flat grained pieces.
Price increases for thickness and grain activity.

Yikes!!!!

Hmm, those veneer prices are quite reasonable if the grain is nice. A pity that the thickness doesn't match what I use, or I might be able to get some to check it out for you. I have personally paid as much as $18/sqft at 1/42" thick for material, and a burl that I use a fair amount of costs me $10/sqft. No, I will not perform the multiplication for you.

That's probably not the wood to use for learning scroll saw techniques. I'll have to look elsewhere for "starter" wood.

Now that is a fine wood. Lots of bucks but I will have to get some just to have it. Definiately special project material.
